Molly Andersen

My name is Molly Andersen. I am a 31 year old widow of three children under the age of 4. Sometimes it is just all so unbelievable.

My husband, Kyle Andrew Andersen and I, were college sweethearts. We met at the age of 19 years. Some people say they believe in love at first sight, and that is how it was with Kyle and me. We always had a magnetic attraction for each other and an energy that is just unexplainable. I guess this is where the story began for us.

We both became teachers in the Dubuque Schools and became parents of three beautiful children. Margaret “Maggie” and later on twins Jacob and Maria. Our small family lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa when our world came crashing down.

Kyle was the vice principal of Fort Dodge Senior High School, and I was a stay at home mom to my then three year old Maggie and one year old twins at the time of his passing. I was out of town at the time of Kyle’s accident. I was at my parent’s home in Bellevue, Iowa preparing for my brothers graduation from high school. Kyle stayed behind to help with Fort Dodge’s graduation.

On May 25, 2007 I received a call at 2:00AM from the hospital letting me know that my husband had been in a car accident, but not to worry. “It was not too serious.” As the early morning hours progressed, we learned that the situation was much more critical then originally thought and he was to be life flighted to Des Moines Iowa Methodist Hospital. My father and I rushed to Des Moines and arrived later that morning. It appeared that Kyle had a thoracic tear in his main aorta. He underwent major surgery and came through with “flying colors.”

The next morning Kyle was to undergo surgery to repair his broken left leg. When Kyle was transferring for this surgery, he threw a blood clot to his lungs and passed quickly. The news was shocking to all of us.

Kyle was such a healthy, happy and energetic man and that life was gone? The babies and I moved back to Dubuque, Iowa to be near family and I have returned to teaching. Everyday we put one foot in front of the other and make each day the best that we can. My children will know there daddy through pictures, stories and the legacy I am leaving behind for them through this group.
